Westwood College - Misrepresent

Westwood College of Atlanta is not a good school to be advertised. This school is not abiding by the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities.

The primary person is J Brooks he admits all below average students dominate African Americans just to keep the money coming into this school. These students did not qualify on the college entrance exams which are changed for admittance. For the most parts, these students are subjective to taking several remedial classes in which they mostly fail by the professors but Brooks keeps track of this information. Many teachers report this information to the president but he only allows it. When instructors report it to Brooks - Chair of General Education, he only sides with the students and constantly rehires adjuncts for disobeying him in terms of passing the many failing students taking remedial courses.

At the end of the term, he goes into the register system and changes the grade from fail to pass. Westwood College continues on this same pathway for several years and needs to obey the educational laws.

you are a liar.you have no proof.

Stop trying to discredit the college where I graduated from. I did what I was supposed to do and I make 75K a year and pay my loans like a productive member of society. Here is a lesson to be learned, read everything you sign.

Westwood gives you a lot of papers to sign but they also give you time to read them.Grow up and take responsibility stop dragging my school in the mud loser.

Westwood College Online left me to burn with huge bill

I attended Westwood College Online for 5 years in hopes of achieving a bachelor's degree. However since I've reached the maximum loan amount allowed by the government without notice, I've been kicked out and receiving calls everyday from Sallie Mae on how to repay a $78k loan bill.

Had I known it was going to reach this high or even some sort of communication from the college on how much I'm spending would be very nice but thats a bit to much. Westwood Online has rejected all of my communication and now I'm left in the dark with Sallie Mae and trying to patch things up with them as I am working on a job to start paying this bogus piece of paper. Everytime I think of how much I have left to pay, I feel like I just graduated with a masters degree or PHD but no... I have nothing in my pocket but a ruined record and $78k to pay back in my name...

I regret this decision but little did I know when I was younger.Word to the wise, stick to universities and local community colleges as they will always accept credit transfers and future job opportunities will be much easier.

I think what we can take away from your review is that you are exactly the kind of student Westwood wanted and duped correctly.Westwood took two years of my life and over $30k for a crappy education, poorly taught classes, ill informed staff and students.

When I attended we were told often that credits would transfer to local colleges and universities it was also listed on their website. A week before graduation all of these details were removed from the website. Not one person in any of the graduating classes of my year have continued in the fields studied at Westwood college. I've met a few grads that tried and tried to transfer credits.

After realizing that this would not happen they sucked it up and attended standard 4 year universities.

This is a costly way of teaching a person a lesson in "getting all the facts" about a school you plan to attend.I should have gone back to UIC, paid them the $30k and received a bachelors in IT.

So Sad, yes you are.Gotta let the facts speak for themselves.

Are other colleges being sued on a regular basis for fraud? Has their ccreditation been suspended? Gotta go to westwoodisawful . com and review the videos.

They have not been truthful at all. Check out westwoodisawful .

So what you're saying is that in 5 years!!! you have not logged into your Sallie Mae account once to check how much you owe?

What about the time when you have to sign loan papers? Did you not see the number with tons of 0s at the end?

So how is it the college's fault? No system in the world is imbecile-proof.

Apparently you've learned nothing in all your years in college. You have to sign every year for your loan and the amount is right there in black and white.

You're blaming others for your problems and you should have been taught not to do that before you hit college.Your parents failed you.

Wow a little harsh don't you think?Yes, I know every college is supposed to tell you up front, my sister gets this from her university.

I've asked and gotten the runaround numerous times before finally getting a such report that wasn't even correct. I've had great grades throughout the entire time, just got kicked out because of the federal limit. The teachers are great, just the finance department plays games over and over. I'm not trying to get out of paying the loan back but merely get this college to shutdown to prevent them from taking more innocent 18yr olds.

My lawyer calls this financial rape and is pursuing action. And for the record I was told monthly payments would be $200 or so, I'm being asked $800 a month, I can't afford that on my $12hr job along with other bills.

Anonymous
#414722

Every college tells you up front what your cost is each semester to attend classes. You're also told up front what your loan amount is.

It is YOUR fault for not paying attention to the fact that you have maxed out your loan.

Stop trying to get out of paying a bill that you owe.Quit looking for a scapegoat for YOUR mistake and pay the bill you owe you ***.

Westwood College Scammed and Lied

Los Angeles, California 5 comments

Institution of higher learning my A$$.

I am at my wit's end with this degree mill. They lied to me in every way, shape and form. Ben my admission counselor (Salesman) stated credits would be transferable, now they post on the website they are not transferable. Degree can be used to obtain a better position or higher paying job. Now they state is only gives you the tools to succeed..lies, lies, lies...

Even the Dean, School of Technology of WOL who I met lies to me about future accreditation. Where does it end?

Westwood has voluntarily dropped from Regional Candidacy. As I work a second job (nights and weekends) trying to pay for this now $80,000 education that is worthless, trying to stay afloat of this financial h**l that this college create, my anger grows. So what did I learn that cost me $80,000 and nothing but grief, financial insecurity and embarrassment? That For-Profit schools like Westwood are out to make money off the backs of those who want to succeed and have dreams by lying and making false promises. They are in it only for the money and will not supply you with an education that will allow you to enter the job market. You will be placed so far into debt that no matter what job you apply for, you will not be able to realistically pay it off timely and if you do get a degree from them, it is better used as toilet paper.

I was duped and feel like I've been made a fool by attending this joke of a college. Yes, I am trying to pay off this bogus debt. I have been in the IT business for over 20 years, hold certifications in Cisco, Microsoft and database administration, all obtained prior to Westwood. Here's how great they are, of those that graduated from Westwood with me, here is a list of their current positions as of today: Manager KFC, Walmart Clerk, Homeless and Unemployed, Clerk 7-11, Student (went to a real college to start over)

Now the have a placement guarantee that is really not a guarantee. See the other posts to see how it works. It's your money that they are giving back to you if they cannot help you find a job. You are still paying for it and once the six months are up, you are still saddled with outrageous school loans.

No one who graduated with me was able to work in their field of study and failed to keep their promise of job assistance. Westwood college (joke) needs to be shut down.

Westwood ruined my credit, finances and future dreams.

I am amazed at the amount of fraud, deceit and lies from this degree mill. Online research has provided me with some interesting information.

On 04/20/2011 the BBB accreditation was suspended due to recent government action concerning the marketplace and its customers that demonstrates a significant failure of the company to support the principles and purposes of BBB accreditation. The matter will be reviewed by the BBB's Board of Directors at its next meeting.

On December 14, 2010 the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (CCHE) changed Westwood College's status from Full Authorization to Probationary Authorization due to it's probation order from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has pulled GI Bill funding from all three Texas campuses of a for-profit college accused of misleading advertising and enrollment practices.

At the December 2, 2010 regular CCHE meeting, Commissioners voted to defer action for Westwood College until staff had received notification from the Accrediting Commission for Career Colleges and Schools. Department staff received a "Continued Probation Order" from the ACCSC on December 9,

2010. The ACCSC reviewed the September 1, 2010 Probation Order and the school's response to that action at its November 2010 meeting. It was determined that the school has not demonstrated compliance with the ACCSC's requirements relative to student achievement outcomes.

Additionally, Westwood College was requested to provide information with regard to compliance to several and various state agencies and other accreditors given the allegations of the Government Accountability Office August 4, 2010 report.

On April 6, 2009 the United States of America (on behalf of the United States Board of Education) filed an Amended Complaint in the United State District Court of the Northern District of Texas. Charges filed indicate the business was in violation of state law prohibiting a failure to comply with Statutory and Regulatory Requirements for Proprietary School Operations. Particularly, some charges related to unethical and/or misleading recruitment practices, failure to report unsatisfactory job placement rates for graduates, and/or failure to properly register school representatives. The matter was resolved by a settlement in March 2009.

In 2009, Westwood's parent company, Alta Colleges Inc., of Denver, agreed to pay the U.S. government $7 million to settle a lawsuit accusing the Texas campuses of submitting falsified federal student aid forms.

Wow....and they have the nerve to tell me they are transparent?

I talked to a counselor today who insists that the Medical Assistant Program is accredited , stating that they are ACICS and that i was grossly subjected to lies from other colleges . so i calmly sent her this link

www.aama-ntl.org/cma-aama-exam/application-steps/eligibility

that states to be eligible to take the CMA extx you must have taken a program accredited by ABBHES OR CAAHEP. Actually arguing with me and here i could have been completely duped if i didn't do the correct research.... i'm disgusted!!!!!

you are a liar.I work in higher ed.

The RMA & CMA allow Medical Assistants to work in the same places. CMA is CAAHEP and RMA is AMT. My students graduate with their RMA and work at the best hospitals in the Chicagoland.

Research takes more than a few minutes on google.Maybe you should refresh some of your high school courses before enrolling in college.

Yeah, I knew a guy who went there. Brother of my sister's boyfriend. He was convinced that it was a "private elite college." For-profit colleges are never a good idea; they only want money.

Westwood College Scam and Rip-Off

Los Angeles, California 3 comments

After searching around, hoping to get into a bachelor's program where I could move into management, I was contacted by a Westwood representative by the name of Ben who told me nothing but lies and mislead me during the application process. Yes, at the time, they were seeking Regional Accreditation. They had their ACICS accreditation but I was told by the recruiter that they were way past the point of candidacy and it would be only a short time before they were Regionally accredited. False promises, lies about their accreditation and several years later, I graduated. Took my degree to my current employer and after HR review, they explained to me since they do not have Regional accreditation, I was out of luck and could not be considered for management. My employer would not even allow me to apply for educationally assistance or reimbursement because this "college" was not a valid institution.

So I tried taking my transcript to 3 local community colleges and was told the credits are non transferable. Went to 2 local "for-profit" schools with ACICS accreditation as well and was also denied. Tried using this fake degree to apply for several positions with SCE, IBM, Oracle, Wells Fargo, and a hand full of respectable and known IT companies. Received nice thank you letters but was told that I did not meet the minimum educational requirements by two potential employers because this "˜college' did not meet their criteria as an educational institution. Yet, I did meet the experience portion of several but because of my lack of an actual degree, was denied an interview.

So now, several years down the road I see that Westwood has voluntarily dropped from Regional Candidacy. As I work a second job (nights and weekends) trying to pay for this $50,000 education that is worthless, trying to stay afloat of this financial *** that this college create, my anger grows. Some people have hobbies, collecting coins, boating, needle-point. Starting today, my hobby will be to go online at least once a week, visit as many websites as I can and spread the word on what this school did to me, financially and emotionally, and of those that graduated from Westwood with me, here is a list of their current positions as of today: Manager KFC, Walmart Clerk, Homeless and Unemployed, Clerk 7-11, Student (went to a real college to start over)

I went there from 07-09 and have $48,000 in debt and I'm in the same boat. They promised I could take credits to another college but all I get is embarrassement when they say that these are worthless.

I graduated with a 3.7GPA and top 10 of my class and still can't get a job in the field. I was bad off financially before I went there now I'm 10 times worse off. They promise you the world but once they get your government loans or graduate they don't care a bit about you. I still have yet to even recieve a diploma from them 5 years later after graduating.

My whole schooling was financed from sallie Mae and grants. But westwood says I owe them an additional $1000.00 before I will recieve it. A lot if the courses all we did were sit and talk while the instructors were on there laptop doing whatever or not even in the school at all. Hardly ever did a lesson and just did test for your grade that was open book.

Just a joke and a scam of a college and now my life is completely screwed over in debt because of there decieving trickery and lies.

I went to the Ft.Worth texas campus which is now shut down.

An ACICS accreditation is for specialty and trade schools. It is absolutely a valid accreditation and tightly regulated by the state. If your employer will not accept it then they might be the ones ripping you off. A regional (WASC) accreditation is a somewhat more comprehensive and more desirable but there is nothing wrong with the ACICS accreditation.

I suspect your employer is either not happy with you (?), has favorite people they want to move into those higher positions, don't want to promote ANYONE now ($), or the position is very academic. Now you have the degree - see if it will help you get on somewhere else. The job market still sucks but is improving so it may be a good time to start knocking on doors.
